Environmental Monitoring

Environmental Monitoring

You should link the design and the analysis at the beginning of the program, don't design and implement the survey and then think about the analysis.Some of the issues you need to consider include:

  • The design of the program will limit the appropriate tests;
  • Whether your design and methods provide you with sufficient power to avoid errors;
  • The kind of result may require that you use non-parametric analysis.

Exploratory data analysis will often reveal skewed data sets.

The section on statistics provides more information and references for you to use.

The choice of the most appropriate statistical design is not easy and cannot really be learnt just by reading about it. Do as much as you can, being explicit about the question you are asking, the design, the expected characteristics of the data, and then ask a (good) quantitative ecologist.

Why is QA/QC important?
